Me and My Father's Shadow: A Daughter's Quest and a Biography of Ted Lewis
Dawn Williams, Author of Me and My Father's Shadow: A Daughter's Quest and a Biogrpahy of Ted Lewis
Dawn Williams was a graduate student in a journalism
Master Degree program at the University of Southern
California when she learned that she was the daughter of
Ted Lewis, “The Jazz King.”  This book is her father’s
biography, along with the story of an era, aflame with the
glitz and glamour of the 1900s.

Me and My Father’s Shadow is her first non-fiction book.
“Without this biography, the musical and showmanship
genius of Ted Lewis would be lost forever.”

Born in Hollywood, and raised in Southern California, she
continues to write full-time, working in non-fiction as well
as children’s books, poetry, and someday even novels.

"Cyril T. Centipede Looks For New Shoes and other To This Very Day Series children's
books, could be the best children's picture book series since Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat."
--Hallie Whelen, Long Beach, CA - Elementary school teacher for over 40 years.
To This Very Day Series Children's Pictures Books is a series of five books (and counting!) wonderfully enchanting
children's picture books written by
Dawn Williams, a mother of four adult children and a grandmother, an award-winning
author, and founder of Sunrise-House Publishers.

An imaginative story-teller, Williams also holds a BA degree in Communications from UC Berkley and a Master's degree in
journalism from the University of Southern California (USC). She is the only child of the late, famous musician/entertainer
Ted Lewis, known by many as "The Jazz King", "The High-Hatted Tradedian of Song", and "The Medicine Man For Your Blues".
With his trademark battered top hat, clarinet and twirling cane, Leis was a major influence in the early days of jazz music
and was renown for his famous question, "Is everybody happy?". Lewis died in 1971 at age 81.

In 2005, Williams wrote and published a book about her celebrated father in
Me And My Father's Shadow: A Daughter's
Quest and Biography of Ted Lewis "The Jazz King".
The book recently won the as "Entertainment Book of the Year" by
the Book Publicists of Southern California. (see Ted Lewis Book)    A critically acclaimed author, Williams' forte appears to be
in writing children's books.  Her tales spark wonder and excitement, while providing simple yet poignant lessons about life.

Illustrator Joey Chou (www.joeyart.com) is a graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.  His colorful,
playful yet ingenious character designs with their vibrant pastel shadings, bring to life the episodes of each story in vivid
detail.  The Williams-Chou match-up makes for some great reading and imaginative viewing for youngsters with
their parents at family time, bed time or any time!
