The Beautiful Island of Moorea in Tahiti
|
Moorea, calledl the Jewel of the South Pacific by many, is one of more unique of the
Tahitian Island because it combines a number of elements lacking on the other
destinations in French Polynesia. It has high mountains, rain forest, clear water lagoons
protected by a ring of coral off-shore, good surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving and some
of the best hotels in the islands. Another plus is that Moorea has a number of affordable
restaurants, thus allowing one to save a bit of money in an expensive part of the world.
This relaxing and yet exhilarating wonderland assaults the senses with an explosion of
sights, smells and sounds at every turn. The view from Mt. Belvedere is one of the
sweetest in the world, while the cascade of views from under the crystal clear seas never
fail to delight and amaze. Fish of every description and many hard to describe populate
the coral reefs which circle one of the crown jewels on God's Green Earth.

For a load of fun combined with great underwater activities, the Lagoon Motu
Picnic from Albert Tours is a great way for tourists to spend a day in Moorea.
The day is launched from the historic Club Bali Hai Hotel, which also is the
starting point for marine biologist Dr. Michael Poole's Whale and Dolphin
watching tours.
One of best tour guides is Ziggy. Part comedian, part Tahitian philosopher part
tour guide, Ziggy is an interesting character who sets the tone for underwater
experiences that begin with a stop to feed Black Tipped Reef Sharks. Upwards
of 20 good size sharks circle the boat and those in the water, along with scores
of smaller tropical fish, searching for food and surveying the scene.
Hotel Kaveka Cook's Bay, Moorea
|
One of the nicest small hotels on Moorea is the Hotel
Kaveka, located at the inlet of Cook's Bay with spectacular
views of the Bay as well as the open sea as huge cloud
formations play across the horizon.
With a lovely coral reef just a few steps away, the snorkeling
includes both shallow and deep waters with colorful fish,
turtles and coral formations of sheer beauty. Located close
to all kinds of island activities, the Hotel Kaveka is a family
run hotel that boasts one of the best over water restaurant
views in Tahiti.
Friendly service, comfortable rooms, good food and
comfortable bungalows are the order of the day at the terrific
Hotel Kaveka. Call for 800-421-8446 for information.

After swimming with the sharks, the boat moves down the coast to play with
the stingrays. Shallow water allows participants to stand while the friendly
stingrays climb up your chest or on your arms in search of food. Ziggy makes
everyone feel comfortable dong something which can be difficult for many.
This is great fun and a terrific learning experience.
Following the excitement of the sharks and stingrays, the tour continues on to
the picnic on the Motu, which means small island. Ziggy has providing good
advice, information and plenty of comic relief for everyone. He makes sure the
mood is upbeat and everyone is safe. Half of the joy of the tour is skimming
over the pristine ocean waters with the wind blowing through your hair as the
range of colors and natural beauty excites and soothes the soul.
At the Motu, while lunch is prepared, beer and rum punch is served. The
lagoon between the island provides great snorkeling with an endless array of
creatures. After lunch Ziggy, in hilarious fashion, demonstrates to everyone
how to peel on a coconut, while you can also view the video footage that is
available as your own personal DVD of the day's adventure. Truly a wonderful
experience in this island paradise.
Mount Belvedere on Moorea in Tahiti Provides One of the Most Beautiful Views in the World
|
This is a view of the twin bays, Opunohu on the left and
Cook's on the right, from Mount Belvedere on Moorea in
Tahiti. The British explorer Captain Cook, actually entered
Opunahu Bay first when he stumbled on this island
paradise in what is now French Polynesia.
Dr. Michael Poole holds fascinating Dolphin and Whale
Watching Tours to further his work on wild dolphins and
Whales in Moorea and throughout French Polynesia. He has
been in Tahiti for 20 years and has made great strides
studying and bringing awareness about these fascinating
mammals.
Dr. Poole's most significant success came after ten years of
effort when, in May 2002, French Polynesia's government
finally accepted Michael's proposition and his draft legislation
to create a whale and dolphin sanctuary within all of the
territory's Exclusive Economic Zone, an area half the size of
the continental US.
It is one of the largest sanctuaries in the world. The Cook
Islands, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia
have likewise declared sanctuaries in their respective EEZs.
This tour is fun and educational, and the money raised goes
into Dr. Poole's research fund.

It is obvious why Moorea, just off the main Island of Tahiti, has been called by the "Jewel of the South Pacific" and
it is one of the most popular destinations in Tahiti. Moorea is in fact is favored by native Tahitians when they
seek to relax. Brendan can tailor a South Pacific vacation package to suit anyone's needs. Whether you wish to
stay in one place or go from island to island on a cruise ship or by plane, they can provide the arrangements
necessary to make your dream vacation run smoothly.
Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahne, Raiatea, Tahaa and the Atolls are all within your reach at 800-421-8446
From the opposite end of the previous view, here is a look at
Opunohu Bay from the ocean side. All the bays and valleys
on Moorea have reef breaks created by fresh water cascading
over in over the centuries and killing the coral reef in those
spots. Because Moorea has a ring of reefs way off the
coast, the surfers have to get the break on small boats.
Tourists enjoy this view of Mt. Rotui, Opunohu Valley and
Opunohu Bay on Moorea is absolutely breathtaking. From
this viewpoint there is a trail through the rain forest to an
even better. It is a bit of a sweaty walk, but well worth it to
see the interesting vegetation and various creatures lurking
about. Don't miss the view from Mount Belvedere on
Moorea in the Tahitian Islands.

An aerial view of Moorea, just off the main island

shore and the Motu's or small islands, off the tip of
the island. That is where the Lagoon Motu picnic

swimming with sharks and feeding stingrays.
