Danny Quintana, Author, Attorney & Volunteer for The Mobility Project. Love Letters from the County Jail is the Latest Book
|

From cheating spouses to alcohol and substance abuse; from lust for
money to the real pain of mental disorders; from ungrateful spoiled
children to gripped by drugs and evil companions. Having handled
hundreds of divorce and domestic abuse cases, Danny Quintana
combed his files and personal experiences to bring forth a wide spectrum
of stories that represent a phenomenon that plagues all levels of
American society.
All who read this series of brief yet riveting stories will glimpse something
of themselves, family or friends as a fascinating cast of characters play
out turning points in their lives and relationships.
As Quintana advises, “You have not been in a knock down drag out fight
until someone is hauled away by the police, and you don’t become an
adult until someone takes your heart, rips it from your chest, crushes it
and kicks in your teeth. When that happens you have matured as a
human being.”
Reading this book is a look at what really goes on behind the closed
doors and drawn curtains of America. How do people really treat each
other when they are alone? Each story brings the reader into lurid,
outrageous and sometimes humorous tales from behind the facade of the
happy American family.
The Mobility Project is a humanitarian organization, committed to serving
people with disabilities who have a wealth of unique gifts to offer their
community, but have been hindered from doing so by poverty and the
resulting lack of even the most basic mobility aids.
We do this by: delivering refurbished mobility aids such as wheelchairs,
crutches, walkers, and other medical equipment to the disabled in need;
adjusting each mobility aid to fit the individual who receives it; providing
sports programs for the disabled, to help them achieve greater
confidence and health; and building wheelchair refurbishing and
manufacturing facilities in the countries where we work, to provide
vocational training for local people with disabilities.
The overwhelming majority of us are volunteers. Simply put, without
volunteers, there would be no The Mobility Project. The primary
qualification for becoming a The Mobility Project volunteer is a heart for
people with disabilities.
There is no special training or experience needed for most of what we
do. We have qualified experts for physical therapy and seating
(although we always need additional trained personnel), but for each
professional, we need two or three helpers who are willing to assist.
So far the youngest volunteer was 3 years old - there to help her
parents. Teens especially are welcome, and will expand their view of
the world.
Danny Quintana, a championship athlete in college,
he was consigned to wheelchair after being afflicted
with transverse myelitis. He could have found many
reasons to give up on his life, but hat is not the way
he is built and not they way he has approached the
problems has faced throughout his life.
The Mobility Project Mission Statement
|
His story of overcoming adversity highlights a basic tenet that Danny
once voiced on psychologist Carole Leiberman's radio show. When
asked how it must have felt when he was told that he would confined
to a wheelchair, Quintana replied in a matter of tone by saying:
"Frankly, I don't have time to feel sorry for myself, I have too much to
do in this lifetime. I have too many beautiful women to meet, too
many great locations to visit, too many worlds to conquer. Crying in
my soup is just in the cards for me." That pretty much sums up
Danny Quintana and his personal philosophy.
The Spirit of David is compilation of some
inspirational stories dedicated to the memory of
David Schumacher, and the best of the bunch
is the Preface by Salt Lake City attorney Danny
Quintana.
A championship athlete in college, Quintana
was consigned to wheelchair after being
afflicted with transverse myelitis. But this never
stopped from becoming a successful attorney,
advocate for disabled and land mine victims
through The Mobility Project and
representative for various Indian Tribes.

Danny Quintana's latest book is a fascinating look at how the nature
of the War on Terror has altered the nature of the vast military
industrial complex in the United States. A lawyer from Salt Lake City,
Quintana follows a book on similar these, Martian Peace, in which he
encourage the government to divert a small part of defense
expenditures to explore Mars and the Deep Oceans.
