As companies try to find the right formula to survive new economic realities, Brendan
Vacations
, a Los Angeles based tour operator founded in 1968 by native Irishman Jimmy
Murphy, is the midst of adding personnel, expanding their horizons and marketing travel
deals never seen before.
Brendan, which offers escorted and independent vacation
packages for all over the world, is considered the gold standard of tour operators and has
been a consistent leader in breaking through with creative new ways to travel.  In recent
years independent travel has been one of the fastest growing segments in Brendan’s
product line.

Not since the aftermath of 9/11 has the travel industry seen such a rapid contraction of
business, leading Brendan marketing chief Gordon Dirker to reiterate on radio shows
across the country that “the consumer is the big winner in this environment.  In 30 years, I
have never seen anything like what is being offered for the 2009 travel season.”  For
example, just to site one of their many current deals, Brendan is set to offer a winter $99
companion air fare to Europe on British Airways when an escorted tour is purchased.

In order raise the company profile, a major website expansion is underway in conjunction
with a number of other strategies involving radio, TV, print press and the Internet.  Gary
Murphy is a regular guest on a number of syndicated and local radio shows across the
country and Brendan recently participated in the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at
UCLA, giving away 320 travel gift bags loaded with Brendan brochures, flyers, books,
product samples, magazines and other goodies supplied by the Book Publicists of
Southern California.

Another aspect of the travel business flying under the radar is the resurgence of travel
agents as a viable and necessary part of the industry.  For a number of years travel
agents have been under assault as airlines cut their fees and big online retailers
captured the growing Internet market.  But the trend is being reversed as agencies invest
in new technology and consumers grow weary of substandard customer service and a
lack of recourse with big online firms.  In addition, tour packagers like Brendan, hoteliers
and resorts are giving travel agencies the inside track on deals unknown to the others.

The experience and knowledge contained within firms like
Quinn Travel and Alliance
Travel, based in San Francisco, are a fantastic resource for travelers.  Equally important
is the personal touch and the ability to reach an agent with a problem or during an
emergency.  The economic downturn has accelerated this process on both sides of the
equation, with the industry and public embracing this valuable resource.

Brendan holds monthly one-hour Webinars for travel agents on various destinations and
has decided to expand this information resource to consumers with a June Webinar about
the Jameson Irish Whiskey Bow Street Distillery in Dublin.  This is purported to be the
oldest operating whiskey distillery in the world and was purchased by Scottish
businessman James Jameson in 1780.  The Bow Street Distillery is a popular stop on
Brendan’s Irish vacations.  For the date and time contact Brendan at 800-421-8446.

Brendan Vacations was launched in 1968 with escorted tours of Ireland and they now
send more tourists to the Emerald Isle than any other company.  Their buses are a
ubiquitous part of the Irish landscape during the travel season and, about 20 years ago, it
was one of the first operators to offer escorted tours of Northern Ireland.

With over 40-million Americans having some level of Irish ancestry, it is a natural
destination for tourists from the United States.  Surveys indicate, aside from the amazing
scenery, terrific food and amazing historical sites, that it is the Irish people who keep
tourists coming back to Ireland.

With a major presence in the South Pacific and Down Under, Brendan has a number of
exciting vacation packages to Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia.  South America has
become extremely popular over the years, with Brazil leading the pack followed by Peru in
terms of popularity.
