Book Publicists of Southern California
|
The Book Publicists of Southern California was started thirty years ago by Irwin Zucker as a way
for all those connected with or interested in the publishing business, and th promotion of books and
authors, to meet and exchange information. They meet bi-monthly for dinners at the Sportsmen's
Lodge in the Studio City suburb of Los Angeles. Each dinner is a full program with networking,
good food and a panel of experts on various aspects of the book world.
Current BPSC President Ernie Weckbaugh brings the colorful and informative Know Thy Shelf
BPSC Newsletter after every bi-monthly meeting Features include a cover column by Ernie, a
fast-paced and humorous byline column by Irwin, entitled As I Z It, and a photo gallery page
featuring pictures of recent activities of BPSC members, celebrities and writers in the news.
In 1995 the club began awarding the IRWIN Award, standing for Industry Recognition of Writers In
the News. With categories from Best International Campaign to Most Innovative Campaign, the
IRWIN Award lauds those who seek to bring their stoies to the publication with the hard work and
dedication we all know it takes for such an endeavor.
Recently the organization began publishing the Chopped Liver series of books. The most
recent was the well received Chopped Liver for the Loving Spirit, with stories from a wide variety of
people with touching and telling experiences from around the world. The fourth in the series,
Chopped Liver for the Gentle Spirit.
