In that spectacular event, a first was achieved
when 53 high school from the T.R.U.C.E. each
carried one of the flags of the African countries
represented at the United Nations.
The Celebrate Africa Foundation has also taken
a different route to show how the world should
view Africa. We believe, as our mission
indicates, in positively promoting Africa.
Hence in 2006, we decided to institute the
AFRICAN COUNTRY OF THE YEAR AWARD, to
recognize the country that has practices the
ideas embodied in our mission statement,
including good governance, sound
management of public funds, respect for
human rights and the rule of law.
In 2006 Senegal became the first country to
receive the award for, among other things,
being a democratic country, religiously
tolerant, respecting human rights and gender
equality and being of the few countries in
Africa not to have experienced a military
government.
CAF has been carrying out our mission of publicizing Africa positively in so many ways.
Because of our belief that Africa is ripe for private sector investment, it organized the
most successful event on Wall Street to let the bastion of investment capital
understand that Africa is open for business.
