Each AmaWaterways ship has around thirty bicycles on board and offers escorted local bike tours with expert guides. Each person is given a set of headphones so they can hear the guide very clearly from far away. Also people can take the bikes and ride ahead of the ship along bike paths that line certain rivers. The bike paths were first horse paths becasue the river barges were pulled upstream with ropes towed by groups of horses, but now they offer lovely paths along pictureesque rivers. AmaWaterways was the first to put bikes on board and is the only river cruise line that builds ships to carry so many bikes.
