Following Open Fire, his fantastic
autobiography of his fantastic autobiography of
his service in World War IIas a Marine in the
Pacific and experiences in the Air Force during
the Korean War, Roy Roush, Ph.D., has put
together an amazing book about the infamous
and dangerous secret order called the
Knights
of the Golden Circle. KFew people know about
the Knights and even fewer know about the
purpose for which the organization existed.  It
is probably the greatest untold story today in
the history of the United States.
That is unusual because during the last century this very large, powerful, secret
and subversive southern organization had such a profound influence and effect
over the course of many years that they almost succeeded in changing the
course of our history.
It has been said of them that they were one of the deadliest, wealthiest, most
secretive and subversive spy and underground organizations in the history of the
world. It is known that they operated not only in the United States, but also
around the glove for 65 years (1851 to 1916).  Also, that the original Ku Klux Klan
was their military arm. Some of the finest and craftiest brains in the South helped
organize and direct the activities of the Knights of the Golden Circle.

The group was heavy on ritual, most of which was borrowed from the Masonic
Lodge and later from the Knights of Pythias.  Some were also members of the
Rosicrucians.  Their wealth was due to the huge amount of money, valuables and
equipment that they had accumulated for the purpose of restarting the Civil War.

So, you might wonder then if that is true, why haven't we read about them in
our history books or heard them mentioned in our schools before?  That is a
hard question to answer, but maybe because they were such devout, die-hard,
southern rebels, working for a southern cause that was eventually defeated
and one that is not popular today.  However, the fact remains that since they did
exist and were a very large and powerful organization for many years, I think
that their story should be known today.

But during the 1800's, many stories and articles did appear about the Knights of
the Golden Circle in many newspapers, magazines and periodicals, before,
during, and after the Civil War.  But somehow, these stories have been
overlooked or purposely omitted from our modern-day history books.  So, who
were the Knights of the Golden Circle and what was their purpose?
"This book is not only a history lesson,
but will create a lot of interest to many
serious treasure hunters to possibly
make the find of their life."
Pat Keene of Keene Industries, Major
Suppliers of Gold Dredging and
Treasure Hunting Equipment

"Roy Roush has created a book that
certainly brings out a surprisingly
important part of our history that very
few people are aware of."
President of the Los Angeles
Historical Society

"Well researched and written.  This is
the only book I know of that give any
direct information, including maps, on
these treasures.  It will certainly be
helpful to me."
David Finner, Treasure Hunter and
Diver and President of the California
Wreck Divers Association

"Roush's book is worth it's weight in
gold and will open up an important new
avenue for treasure hunting using this
information as the 'Bible' for a guide."
Bob Fitzgerald, Professional Treasure
Hunter and Distributor of Long Range
Precision Locators
"Nearly every man of influence in the South (and many
a pretended Union man of the North) is a member of
the Knights of the Golden Circle, and sworn, under
penalty of assassination, to labor, in season and out of
season, by fair means or foul, at all times, and on all
occasions, for accomplishments of its objective."
Charles G. Leyland,
Continental Monthly, 1862
The above quote bears witness to the very intense goals of this secret and very
determined organization that has its roots in the early years of the United States
under a different name. Roush wrote in Chapter One how the Knights of the Golden
Circle "were formerly organized in 1835 as a secret organization by Senator John C.
Calhoun, William Porcher and others, but their ideals had been going on for a
number of years.  The Knights of the Golden Circle were a direct descendent of
other similar and secret societies, including one called The Lone Star.

These men were southerners and their goal was the dissolution of the Union and to
establish a Souther Empire, not a Confederacy or a Republic, but an Empire.  It
meant to achieve this purpose through a secret, large, and powerful organization,
which indeed, they became."
