David Schumacher, who passed away in 2006, began his real estate portfolio in Hermosa Beach, California after taking a helicopter ride
over the city in 1960. After finding success as an appraiser, David and his twin brother Paul collaborated on that business while buying
properties in areas where values were escalating. This was the beginning a real estate fortune leading to his best selling book, Buy and
Hold: 7 Steps to a Real Estate Fortune, which continues to sell briskly in the 2004-05 Revised Edition. Buy and Hold was named one of
the 10 best Real Estate books of 2000 by syndicated columnist Robert Bruss. David and his wife, Margaret, have also had stories in every
version of the Chopped Liver Anthology series published by the Book Publicists of Southern California.

Still owning three properties on the famous Strand in Hermosa Beach,
California, where Schumacher had been doing business for over 50
years, they decided it was time give something back to a community
which has given them so much. As a result they donated 1 million
dollars toward renovation and expansion of the Hermosa Beach Pier.
On November 19, 2005 a ceremony was held to dedicate the
Schumacher Plaza, named in honor of David Schumacher's twin brother,
Paul. Attended by County Supervisor Don Knabe and hosted by
Hermosa Beach Mayor Peter Tucker, the dedication was preceded by
press coverage worthy of such a great civic gift.

The story in Chopped Liver for the
Loving Spirit describes how David and
Margaret met on a cruise ship more
than 17 years ago. They were
immediately attracted to each other.
Then living in London, Margaret and
David saw each other on vacation trips
before getting married 13 months later.
Their bond is a testament to the
importance of the strong ties based on
fully supporting the most vital
relationship in our lives. David and
Margaret Schumacher are an
inspiration in all aspects of life and
worth holding up as an example by
anyone looking to better themselves.
A consistent supporter of the Book Publicists of Southern California, David and Margaret will contribute a story to the fifth installment of the Chopped Liver Series, this being a dedication the "Gentle Spirit." Their other work in civic affairs, and with worth charities, makes the Schumachers a credit to their community and country.

There are heroes among us who lift us to
unlimited heights with their spirit and
persistence. Dr. David Theodore
Schumacher was a businessman, author,
appraiser and real estate guru. He
amassed a fortune in real estate
throughout his lifetime, and then used it
for humanitarian purposes.
The entrance to the Hermosa Beach Pier
in Hermosa Beach, CA, was rebuilt with
funds David donated. It was renamed
Schumacher Plaza in honor of his late
twin brother Paul. In March of 2007 he
donated one million dollars to the Mission
Hospital in Mission Viejo, CA, for the
construction of the Schumacher Healing
Garden.

Everyone who crossed David's path learned from this incredible
gentleman. He was a lecturer, world traveler, and tour leader. He
taught advanced appraisal courses for the California Department of
Real Estate at Los Angeles City College and UCLA Extension. His list
of memberships in Professional Societies included: SREA Society of
Real Estate Appraisers, ASA American Society of Appraisers, American
Society of Military Engineers, South Bay Realty Board, and many more.
He realized all of this in spite of becoming increasingly blind from a
birth defect known as progressive myopia, a detached retina and
glaucoma. Although being nearly without sight from before the age of
60 and totally blind from the age of 76, David led an extra-ordinary life
of achievement. He authored Buy and Hold, 7 Steps to a Real Estate
Fortune.
He optimistically engaged in such activities as chess, square, dancing,
collecting stamps and coins, opera, classical music, ballet and
Broadway musicals with his countless friends around the globe.
Here's to David whose spirit will forever be with us.
